Nestled in the heart of San Diego’s lively Gaslamp District, Cafe Sevilla of San Diego offers an authentic and enchanting taste of Spain paired with a vibrant European dining atmosphere. Celebrated for its diverse menu that marries traditional Spanish cuisine with Latin and European influences, this fine dining restaurant and tapas bar is a must-visit for anyone craving an immersive culinary experience.
Upon entering Cafe Sevilla, guests are greeted by warm, traditional Spanish decor that sets the stage for an unforgettable evening. Whether you choose the bustling indoor seating, the lively outdoor patio, or the more secluded upper room perfect for groups, the ambiance exudes a welcoming, festive energy enhanced by live music and a night club vibe as the evening progresses.
The menu is a treasure trove of flavors that transport you straight to the Iberian Peninsula. Standout dishes immediately capture the senses: the Sangria—whether the classic red, white, or an adventurous sangria flight—is refreshingly balanced, with fruity notes that cleanse the palate. Then there’s the Seafood Paella, a show-stopper revered by patrons, loaded with perfectly cooked shrimp, calamari, mussels, and clams, all nestled in richly seasoned, saffron-infused rice with a delightful crispy bottom layer that lights up the taste buds. For those seeking even more indulgence, the Lobster & Ibérico Pork Belly Paella is a decadent feast, combining tender lobster tail with the savory depth of Ibérico pork belly and chorizo, all drizzled with romesco aioli for a luscious finish.
The tapas bar genuinely shines with its exceptional small plates that burst with flavor and texture. Dishes like Brussel Sprouts a La Barcelona offer a satisfying crunch with a savory twist, while the Bacon Wrapped Dates provide a perfect marriage of sweet and smoky notes. The Patatas Bravas strike a harmonious balance between sweet and spicy, coating each crispy potato bite with a vibrant sauce that lingers delightfully on the tongue. For fans of seafood, the Gambas Al Ajillo (garlic shrimp) and the Spicy Octopus Ceviche are elegantly prepared, fresh, and bursting with zesty citrus and a touch of heat.
No Spanish meal here would be complete without sampling the Charcuterie of Spain. The legendary Jamon Iberico, aptly dubbed “The Pride of Spain,” delivers an incredibly rich, nutty aroma and flavor, thanks to Iberian pigs’ acorn diet. Paired with an assortment of Spanish cheeses—Manchego, Mahon, Cabrales, and Crottin—served with hearty Kalamata olive or toasted French bread, it’s a sublime starter or shared delight.
Diners consistently praise the quality and genuine flavor of the offerings. Customer reviews echo a recurring theme of remarkable value and portion generosity, especially with dishes like the paella, which one guest found large enough to feed three to four people. Several visitors highlight the attentive service, noting how the food arrives promptly without feeling rushed—perfect for savoring every bite. The setting is equally applauded, with a spacious yet intimate feel and accommodations like an elevator for easy access to upper-level dining and restrooms.
To round out the meal, indulge in classic Spanish desserts that provide a sweet finale with flair. The Churros Con Chocolate arrive golden and dusted with delicate orange zest sugar, accompanied by a rich, velvety hot chocolate that is comfort in every sip. The Flourless Chocolate Cake with caramel gelato and candied citrus offers a decadent, melt-in-your-mouth experience, while the creamy Basque Cheesecake and smooth Spanish Flan pay homage to cherished traditional favorites.
Whether you stop by for a lively night out filled with tapas and sangria or a special occasion dinner featuring luxurious paellas and charcuterie, Cafe Sevilla of San Diego crafts every visit to be rich in flavor, culture, and warmth. It’s a place that moves beyond dining to deliver a soulful celebration of Spanish culinary art, leaving you with lasting, joyful memories that beckon for your return.
Visited for Tapas with friends on a Tuesday evening. I recommend dinner reservations especially when a conference is in town. Service was excellent, food was very good and served quickly but we didn't feel rushed. There was indoor and outdoor seating, plus a quieter room upstairs, maybe for large groups. The bathroom is upstairs, but there is an elevator if needed.
Best Paella Ever! This place is incredible! Here’s why I give it 5 stars: • Mind-blowing Paella: I ordered the "Single" size, but it was huge enough for 3–4 people! Loaded with seafood and perfectly crispy at the bottom. It was so delicious it gave me goosebumps—the best I’ve ever had. • Insane Value: The Happy Hour tapas were mountain-sized and far exceeded my expectations for the price. We were stuffed! • Perfect Vibes: The Spanish-style interior with red glowing lamps is beautiful, and the service is top-notch. Highly recommended for both the food and the atmosphere!
I was attending a conference in San Diego and I met two colleagues for dinner at this place in the gaslamp district. The decor is very beautiful and traditional Spanish. We ordered Tapas to share as well as a traditional paella, which was outstanding. The octopus (pulpo) was fabulous, as were the croquetas and albondigas (meatballs). Outstanding food all around, just as good as in Spain where I visited recently. Our server was friendly and helpful. Oh, and we had the sangria which was great. No complaints. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone who likes Spanish food.
I came here with a group of six work mates. We ordered the meal for two for $99. You get five dishes. We ordered the meatballs and ceviche from option one. Bacon wrap dates and chorizo from option two. Croquetas de queso is the only option for dish number three. Dish number four you get two dishes or the paella. So we ordered the raised beef, the salmon, the paella for two. The last dish is basque cheese cake. On top of that, we ordered the charcuterie board with the different meats, and added manchego cheese. All the food was excellent. The dates were amazing. Savory but sweet, with a nice crunch. The paella was delicious, but the Braised beef was the winner. It just fell apart. And the cheese cake had nice orange flavor. Overall, it was an amazing meal with great service. We sat outside because the weather was nice. But there's table and bar sitting available inside. They also have a second floor that can accommodate large groups or private events. 22 Aug 25: We came back for dinner on a Thursday night and we sat inside this time. The service was subpar. Our server, Carlo was nowhere to be found most of the time. Last time we had a group of six and they were able to split our checks. This time, the server said it was their policy not to split it. Which is total BS.
Got there around 5 pm and only 1 or 2 other tables there before us when they opened at 4:30 pm. For drinks we started off ordering the Happy Hour Red and White Sangria. For starters we ordered the Tortilla Espanola and Patatas Bravas. I really enjoyed the Patatas Bravas, nice flavor, mix of sweetness and spiciness. For the main dish we ordered the Family Style Meat Paella "Rupestre" which had pork tenderloin, grilled sausages, chicken, lamb chop and flat iron steak. The paella was solid as well. Solid food, server and ambiance.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. They have dancing and great food. Brandon was my bartender last night and his service was on point. Beside being attentive, he was friendly and personable. Thank you, Brandon. The Pulpo Romescoe and Pan con Tomate w/ cheese are my favorites.
Great happy hour 4:30 to 6:30 My wife and I drank sangria, Spanish old fashioned. And enjoyed stuffed dates, croquetes and empanadas from the happy hour menu. Also had boquerones from the regular menu. This was a great find! After I posted above, we decided on desert. Oh wow... catalán cheesecake is phenomenal, the crema Catalana delicious and we topped it all off with a dessert sherry flight. OMG I can't wait to be back in San Diego to come back.
The food service was exceptional, with attentive staff who ensured that every aspect of the dining experience was enjoyable. The Sangria pitcher was not only a fantastic value but also brimming with vibrant flavors that perfectly complemented our meal. Each sip was refreshing and rich, making it a highlight of the evening. Additionally, the live music added a wonderful ambiance, creating an inviting atmosphere that enhanced our overall experience and made the night truly memorable.
